Choirs The St Bede's Gregorian Chant Choir sings at the 10.45 traditional rite Mass every Sunday, and also for the Mass on Traditional Catholic Family Alliance catechism days held at St Bede's. We sing the proper texts (Introit, Gradual, Alleluia(s), Offertory Verse and Communion Verse) in Gregorian Chant, from the Liber Usualis. When there is no polyphonic choir, we also sing one of the Mass Ordinaries from the Liber Usualis, according to the Sunday or Feast, and various plainchant hymns and motets during the Offertory and distribution of Holy Communion. We hope to be able to introduce some of the simpler polyphonic motets in the future, depending on the singers available. We encourage the congregation to join in the singing of the Ordinary, but at the same time we think it important that both we and the people become familiar with more of the Church's treasury of chants than just the Missa de Angelis and Credo III! We normally hold a rehearsal on one evening each week (currently Tuesdays). Anyone interested in joining the choir is welcome to contact John Tennant (c/o St Bede's, or telephone 07985 278765). We welcome beginners! |
