Once a month at St Bede's we have a "Special
Sunday". It includes a Sung Mass or indeed a Solemn High
Mass, with classical music performed by our .
Then all those who wish share a buffet lunch in the parish rooms.
People appreciate the opportunity to meet with others, whether
they regularly attend our traditional community, or only come
as occasionally.
After lunch, Fr. Carr gives a doctrinal talk in Our Lady's Chapel.
The talk lasts between 30 and 40 minutes, and aims at providing
sound Catholic doctrine. The talks usually refer to the cycle
of the liturgical year or to the Gospel of the day. Some of the
recent themes were : What has the Crucifixion really changed
in my life? Should we fear the devil? Should we always
obey? The Holy Family The Immaculate Conception
The Holy Souls in Purgatory.
In Advent and on other particular liturgical
occasions, we celebrate traditional Vespers at 5pm (or Stations
of the Cross in Lent) followed with Benediction.
Of course, some people come and attend only for some part of
the program on those "Special Sundays". There is no
obligation to stay for all the liturgical, fraternal and doctrinal
activities offered. On the other hand, many couples and families
like to travel (sometimes from quite a distance) at least once
a month to St Bede's, knowing that Sung Holy Mass will be followed
with activities which make the liturgy part and parcel of a community
life.
